  • Francois was born in Marseille, France from a father, amateur painter who initiated him to the visual arts like painting and photography and a mother who taught him the joy of the classical music, opera and theater. After his high school, Francois studied Art History at the University and it was also at this time that he started to shoot his first pictures but without thinking to make a job of it.

    In 2005 Francois arrived in California for 5 years and he bought his first digital camera. What was at the beginning just a way to document the life in the USA became a real way of life. He followed the courses of the New-York Institute of Photography and at the same time he met Cooksey Talbott a master of the nature photography and he started to study with him. During this time, Francois photographed hundreds of landscapes and numerous wildlife subjects. At the same time his pictures were regularly displayed in a gallery in Niles, California.

    In 2008, Francois Laforgia, who was already a jazz lover, decided to shoot a jazz band during a festival at the San Francisco De Young Museum. Since he has become a regular in the bay area jazz community, shooting for different jazz clubs like Coda Lounge, Yoshi's Oakland, Yoshi's San Francisco and he works also on regular basis with the collective JazzMafia. He was also official photographer of the 2009 San Jose Jazz Festival. His pictures of jazz musicians were published on jazzwest.com, 5 of them are in permanent exhibit at the gallery of the Jazz Heritage Center in San Francisco and In February 2010 Francois had his own exhibit, "Portraits of Jazz", at the Fremont Art Gallery (California).
